On behalf of the European Parliament, I would like to tell you that we are very close to Georgia. We would, of course, have questions, but if there is a possibility for the next step to be taken once the conditions are met, then we would work on them, – the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, said at the press conference held in Brussels in response to the question about how quickly accession negotiations can be started in case Georgia gets the candidate status and how the official Tbilisi has fulfilled the recommendations set by the European Union.
As Roberta Metsola pointed out, the European Parliament is very actively monitoring the issues of Georgia, and as soon as the recommendations are implemented, work will begin on the next steps.
“I cannot prejudge what the outcome of the European Council will be, but I can say on behalf of the European Parliament that we are very closely monitoring, we are close to Georgia, we have always been very vocal in our support. We would, of course, have questions and those questions would need to be answered. But if there is a possibility for the next step to be taken once the conditions are met, then we would work on them,” said Roberta Metsola.
