The largely peaceful protesters have been pushed back from the area in front of and beside the parliament building with two water cannons spraying water mixed with pepper spray, and riot police chasing and attacking individuals.
Opposition politician Elene Khoshtaria and other protesters affected by the pepper spray are being treated by ambulance crews on the spot.
The crowds have moved back along Rustaveli Avenue, but refuse to disperse.
