In the referendum held in Moldova, as a result of the counting of 98.74% of the votes, 50.24% support the amendment of the constitution for the purpose of the country’s integration into the European Union, while 49.76% voted against it.
“Do you support the amendment of the constitution to allow the Republic of Moldova to join the European Union?” was the question of the referendum on which the Moldovans had to state their position.
The constitutional referendum on joining the European Union was held in Moldova on October 20 together with the presidential elections.
As for the presidential elections, the current pro-European president of the country, Maia Sandu, is in first place with 41.89%, and in second place is Alexandr Stoianoglo with 26.30%. This means that the second round of the presidential elections will be held, where these two candidates will face each other.
Maia Sandu responded to the results, claiming that the freedom and democracy of Moldova faced an unprecedented attack, both on the day of the elections and in recent months.
Criminal groups, working together with foreign forces hostile to our national interests, have attacked our country with tens of millions of euros, lies and propaganda, using the most disgraceful means to keep our citizens and our nation trapped in uncertainty and instability,” said President Maia Sandu.
“We have clear evidence that these criminal groups aimed to buy 300,000 votes – a fraud of unprecedented scale.
“Their objective was to undermine a democratic process,” she added.
