A rabies case has been confirmed in Martvili Municipality’s village of Najakhavo after a puppy bit its owner. The National Food Agency reported that laboratory tests verified the disease, leading to quarantine measures and immediate control actions, including vaccination of animals, disinfection and restrictions on movement.
This is the fifth rabies case in Georgia in 2025. The agency continues free nationwide vaccinations, covering up to 300,000 pets annually and urges owners to immunize dogs and cats promptly.
Meanwhile, Georgia has launched a pilot program to manage stray and semi-stray animals in Adjara, Imereti and Kakheti. The initiative involves identification, sterilization, rabies vaccination and testing. Over 2,000 dogs have already been treated, with a goal of 9,000 in the first stage.
