The Office of the Public Defender is studying the tragedy that happened in Zugdidi and will implement all appropriate measures within the scope of its authority in the process of responding to the incident. The public defender is issuing a statement about this.
As mentioned in the statement, the Public Defender of Georgia expresses deep sorrow for the terrible tragedy that happened in the city of Zugdidi and offers condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the deceased minor.
“Unfortunately, the challenges of proper strengthening and support of families with children are acute in the country. The existing social system, targeted central/municipal programs cannot adequately respond to the individual needs of families with children, including in terms of creating a safe environment for children’s life and health, and cannot effectively provide long-term strengthening of families and preparation for independent life.
“The Public Defender constantly calls on the state agencies to take all effective steps to improve the socio-economic situation of families with children in poverty and to create mechanisms that will enable the effective protection of children and the long-term strengthening of families, in order to unswervingly protect the right to life and health of children,” the statement said.
In Zugdidi, on Bukia Street, on the sixth floor of a multi-story building, two children died in a fire that broke out yesterday.
