Levan Ioseliani, the Public Defender of Georgia, met with representatives of the European Union as part of their visit to Georgia, the Public Defender’s office announced.
The meeting revolved around discussions on the current social and political situation of the country, while Ioseliani detailed his role in supervising such processes, most importantly handling information concerning detained and injured protesters. Tamar Gvaramadze, the First Deputy Public Defender, also participated in the discussions.
The MEPs’ primary concern was the independence and freedom of the Public Defender, highlighting its importance in ensuring democratic liability.
