Amid chants of “Slaves, go to Russia,” deputies from the Georgian Dream party exited the Parliament building today as demonstrators protested the conclusions of a temporary investigative commission on the August 2008 war.
The protest began behind the parliament building and later moved to April 9 Street, near the main entrance. Demonstrators shouted slogans such as “Slaves” and “Traitors to the country” at the departing lawmakers.
Protesters also attempted to block the road, but police on the scene prevented them from doing so. The demonstration reflects growing public dissatisfaction with the parliamentary commission’s findings and its handling of the historic conflict.
