President urges Diplomatic Corps to speed up decisions to help schedule new elections

“I applied to the diplomatic corps and requested them to make all of the decisions that have needed to be made for a long time already. I asked them to assist us with one demand: a new election,” Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said after addressing the ambassadors of Georgia during a briefing held in the presidential palace.

“This is our solution, and we will fight for it,” she remarked.

“I convened the diplomatic corps today and informed them that their evaluations were too little, too late. Everything has been proven and is completely clear. Putin even acknowledged his pleasure with the situation and praised the government’s loyalty. This is proof of what is happening,” she remarked.

The extraordinary meeting with diplomatic corps was held after the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, made a statement on the issue of negotiations with the European Union after the meeting of the parliamentary majority and the government team.

In particular, based on the ruling team’s decision, Georgia is not to put the issue of opening negotiations with the European Union on the agenda until the end of 2028. The Prime Minister added that Georgia will also refuse any budget grant from the European Union until the end of 2028.
