President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, on December 13 will hand over the signatures collected within the framework of the campaign “Our Voice for Europe” to the representatives of the diplomatic corps from the EU countries.
As the President said at the meeting with the Georgian diaspora, she hopes that this event will also be attended by representatives of all Georgian authorities, prime ministers and foreign ministers who participated in Georgia’s path towards Europe, and this is the consensus, depolarization and unity that we need.
“On December 13, in 2-3 days, all the representatives of the diplomatic corps will come here, representing those EU countries who have to decide on Georgia’s EU candidacy status on the 14th or 15th, and I will give them the signatures collected [within this campaign]; I will give them our voice, the public’s voice, including your voice, so that they can see that the emigrants who live in their countries today, as foreigners or citizens of their countries, are united in this universal campaign.
“I think they will also attend this event (and this is also a message), I hope so, because the representatives of all Georgian authorities, today, yesterday and the day before yesterday, are invited: prime ministers and foreign ministers who participated in Georgia’s path towards Europe. This is the consensus, the depolarization, and the unity that we need in order for our European path to be successful.
“This does not mean that all of a sudden, with some magic wand, everyone will agree – no! This means that we can respect each other at the level that around this particular plan shared by the whole of society, we don’t compete with each other about who did more, who did less, who did wrong, who didn’t do wrong. And let’s expect a positive decision, at least, this is our belief, our hope, but is in the hands of the members of the European Council, of each free country.
“We would also like to sit around that table very soon and have our voice there – in Europe as well. Thank you very much to everyone for today,” the President said at an online meeting with the representatives of the Georgian diaspora living in the EU countries.
