Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili participated in round-table discussions themed “Safeguarding democracy in testing times-risks, resilience, and recommitment,” within the scope of the 4th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe.
The Head of Government spoke about the challenges facing the world and the urgent need to overcome them.
As the Prime Minister noted, despite the existing challenges, Georgia’s democracy is sustainable, because the country remains committed to such values underpinning democracy as freedom, equality, and the rule of law.
Garibashvili spoke of the Government’s efforts toward protecting democratic institutions and human rights and pointed out that these efforts are fully compatible with the 12 priorities defined for Georgia to receive the candidate status, and that the progress achieved by Georgia so far in this regard calls for a relevant response from the EU.
