The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili congratulated to people on Abkhazian Language Day and noted It is of crucial importance to channel joint forces with fellow Abkhazian citizens toward saving and preserving the unique Abkhazian language.

“I wish a Happy Abkhazian Language Day to all of Georgia, to everyone prizing the protection and preservation of our common treasure, the Abkhazian language and cultural uniqueness, as one’s cherished value and duty!

Along with Georgian, the Abkhazian language is protected by the Constitution of Georgia and represents an inseparable part of our common linguistic treasury. The Government of Georgia continues taking effective steps toward scientifically studying, developing, and promoting the Abkhazian language. This effort becomes especially important in light of the Abkhazian region’s occupation and ongoing enhanced russification on the ground, which now more than ever poses a threat of the Abkhazian language’s extinction.

It is of crucial importance to channel our joint forces with our fellow Abkhazian citizens toward saving and preserving the unique Abkhazian language, to engage more young people in studying this language, and transform Abkhazian into a language for further strengthening our ties and offering new opportunities in the process of peace- and confidence-building.

Еицыҳахьчап аҧсуа бызшәа! Let’s protect the Abkhazian language together!” noted Garibashvili.
