The two men arrested on charges of robbery and group rape of a nun in Khashuri and Surami Diocese have been sentenced to prison as a restraining measure by the Khashuri District Court.
The session was held in a closed format.
Prosecutor Davit Kazarashvili told journalists after the trial that the Prosecutor’s Office will have a strict approach towards the defendants.
“The prosecution has a strict approach to such crimes, and a strict approach will be applied to both defendants,” Kazarashvili said. “We will do our best to hold both of them accountable before the law with full rigor. Regarding the sentence, both of them face life in prison, which means they will have to spend the rest of their lives in prison from the date of sentencing.
“Regarding the evidence, there is a detailed testimony of the victim, where she describes the facts of violence and rape. It is a difficult read. The victim identified both the accused. One of the defendants confirmed that he was at the scene of the incident, but denied the facts. All the evidence have been obtained which proves the crime committed by these two people.
“There were no surveillance cameras on the spot, but all their movements will be obtained,” said Davit Kazarashvili.
