Georgia’s Parliamentary Temporary Investigative Commission will refer Giorgi Vashadze to the Prosecutor General’s office following his failure to attend a scheduled session on Wednesday morning.
“We had to delay opening the session to the public because the first individual summoned […] was Mr. Giorgi Vashadze,” said Commission Chair Tea Tsulukiani during the session. “As you all can see, it is now 11:30 AM. He was invited to appear at 10:00 AM. A reasonable amount of time has passed, and he has not shown up.”
As Tsulukiani states, Vashadze was officially informed of the date and time of the hearing, and his failure to comply is a violation of Article 349 of Georgia’s Criminal Code.
The Commission, tasked with investigating alleged abuses during the United National Movement’s time in power, also summoned Nika Melia, a leader of the Coalition for Change. Tsulukiani warned that similar legal action will be taken if Melia does not comply.
“I urge him to attend. Otherwise, we will be forced to make the same decision,” she said.
