“During the Scandinavian meetings, we emphasized two things – if the EU decision is based on merit, then Georgia deserves the candidacy. If the decision is based on the geopolitical situation, then Georgia also deserves the candidacy,” said the Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili.
He added that to assess the situation objectively, Georgia is a leader compared to some candidate countries.
“We think that in case of merit and in case of geopolitical expediency, there should be a positive position. The EU opened the possibility of applying for the candidacy with a message sent to all three countries due to the geopolitical circumstances. All three countries worked day and night to fill in the questionnaire, and now we are waiting for a decision the EU will recognize the hard work and struggle that the Georgian people have been through, and will give the Georgian people a deserved answer. We expect the fair and positive decision from the European Union that we are striving for,” Papuashvili said.
