A PACE (Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe) pre-electoral delegation, guided by Iulian Bulai (Romania, ALDE), wrapped up a two-day visit to Georgia prior to the upcoming parliamentary elections on October 26, 2024. Bulai stressed the significance of the elections for Georgia’s European integration, emphasizing that secure and legitimate elections are crucial to achieving this goal.
The delegation expressed concerns over the country’s increasing political polarization, allegations of intimidation of opposition members, and, above all, the alarming effects of the ‘Law on Transparency of Foreign Influence’.
The members of the delegation also highlighted pressing issues such as the five percent election threshold and the abolition of gender quotas on women’s political involvement.
A PACE delegation will oversee the elections alongside other international entities.
