One person has died in a mining accident in Tkibuli.
Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia says an investigation has been launched under Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which concerns the violation of safety regulations during construction or other types of work.
The ministry has not disclosed further details at this stage.
A statement regarding the incident was also released by miners from Chiatura.
“Sadly, we have received tragic news. According to the information available to us, a fatal incident occurred at one of the mines in Tkibuli, resulting in the death of a worker. At this time, we do not have detailed information about the circumstances of the incident.
On behalf of the Chiatura miners, we extend our deepest condolences to the family members and loved ones of the deceased.
Friends, fellow workers — in order to prevent such fatal incidents from recurring in the future, it is essential that labor safety standards are strictly observed at all enterprises, especially in mines and shafts. It is also crucial that the relevant authorities conduct regular and effective inspections,” the statement reads.
