The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia charged one person with physical violence against teacher Lado Apkhazava and his son.
According to the investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on May 5 in Lanchkhuti, under the influence of alcohol, K.P. physically abused two people living in the neighborhood, in particular, he hit both of them in the face.
K.P. was charged under the first prima part of Article 126 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, subsection “c” (violence committed against two persons), which provides up to two years of imprisonment.
The Prosecutor’s Office announces that it will apply to the court within the time limit set by the law regarding the application of preventive measure to the accused.
Teacher Lado Apkhazava says that he was attacked by several people. He links the attack to participation in actions against Russian law.
When asked what he supposes the reason was behind the attack, he replied: “Probably because of my participation in the actions, I am giving speeches, protesting the Russian law.”
In connection with the incident, the National Teacher’s Award released a statement on Facebook and said that the attack is especially suspicious in the light of his civic activism – participation in rallies against the Russian Law.
“We expect that the investigation will be carried out in a timely and efficient manner,” the statement of the National Teacher’s Award reads.
