Members of the Batumi organization of the opposition United National Movement party, Giorgi Kirtadze and Mirdat Kamadadze, along with seven deputies of the UNM faction in the Batumi City Council (Sakrebulo), have resigned from the party.
They announced their decision at a briefing, citing no chances for unity within the party.
Giorgi Kirtadze noted that they do not plan to stay where no prospect of victory exists.
“Where there is no prospect of victory, we will not stay any longer. They told us that if we didn’t sign the manifesto, we wouldn’t be able to stay in the party, and we believe that the manifesto was aimed at splitting the party,” stated Giorgi Kirtadze.
The former members expressed their intention to continue political activities and struggle on a new platform. However, they so far specify neither founding a new organization nor collaboration with Nika Melia.
