The government drafted a new amendment to the ‘Law on the Development of Education Quality’ which ensures that educational institutions in Georgia can continue operating while their authorization or accreditation is under review.
The changes aim to address delays that sometimes prevent councils from making final decisions within the legally required 180-day period. Such delays, often caused by difficulties in involving international experts in higher education evaluations, can leave schools, colleges and universities at risk of losing their authorized or accredited status.
Under the new rules, institutions that have submitted applications on time and received the necessary administrative act from the Education Quality Enhancement Center will retain their status until a final decision is made. If authorization or accreditation expires, they may continue functioning for up to 180 additional days.
