The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a preparatory meeting with the EU, UN and OSCE co-chairs of the 56th round of the Geneva International Discussions.
From the Georgian side, the meeting was led by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and the head of the Georgian delegation to the GID, Lasha Darsalia.
The sides raised the issue of effective functioning of the Geneva International Discussions to achieve progress on the main issues of the agenda, such as the implementation by Russia of its international obligations under the ceasefire agreement of 12 August 2008, as well as the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees to their places of origin.
Special attention was paid to the need to restore the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) in Gali.
Discussions focused on Russia’s provocative and illegal actions in Georgia’s occupied regions and in the vicinity of the occupation line, further worsening the security, humanitarian and human rights situation on the ground.
Talking points also included the necessary steps to be taken towards the implementation of the policy of de-occupation and peaceful settlement of the Russia-Georgia conflict, and in this regard, the need for the effective efforts of the international organizations co-chairing the Geneva International Discussions.
