The Government of Georgia has done too little to deserve the candidate status. It has distanced itself from the European Union and its values, – Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the German Bundestag, Michael Roth, said in response to last week’s recommendation given by the European Commission to the leaders of the European Union regarding the granting of candidate status to Georgia.
Roth said he believes that the recommendation of the European Commission is a gift to civil society and the population of Georgia.
“The Georgian government has done too little to deserve the candidate status – it has distanced itself from the EU values. The recommendation to grant Georgia candidate status should therefore above all be understood as a gift to the overwhelmingly pro-EU civil society and Georgian population,” the Chairman of the Bundestag Foreign Relations Committee tweeted.
