Michael Carpenter, Senior Director of European Affairs at the U.S. National Security Council, revealed concerns about Georgia’s political path in an interview with ‘Voice of America.’
He emphasized the recent democracy-threatening actions, harassment of civil society, and constraints on freedom of expression, using the ‘Foreign Agents Law’ as the prime example.
In response, the US has withheld $95 million in aid and applied restrictions to officials who support anti-democratic practices.
Carpenter highlighted that future measures will be taken accordingly.
