The Ministry of Internal Affairs released a statement noting that yesterday’s open altercations with law enforcement officers contributed to the extreme escalation of events. During the protest rally, both, participants and law enforcement officers were injured.
“The forms of protest demonstrated by the participants of the rally near the parliament building became extremely violent. Those who gathered on Rustaveli Avenue used various objects, including flammable, against the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“The open altercation with law enforcement officers contributed to the extreme escalation of events. During the protest rally, both, participants and law enforcement officers were injured.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs, as the agency responsible for maintaining the rule of law and public safety, once again calls on all citizens, organizers, and participants of the rally to stop violent actions, observe the rule of law and follow the rightful requests of police. During the rally, any violation of the law will be followed by an immediate response from police and will be immediately ceased, in accordance with the law,” reads the statement.
