Unfortunately, the position of Official Tbilisi in relation to South Ossetia and Abkhazia has not experienced cardinal changes, – the so-called Ministry of Foreign Affairs of occupied Tskhinvali said in response to the speech of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
“Acting with non-existent terminology and facts and rhetoric far from reality shows that Georgia and Georgian politicians are not freed from the past”, said the “MFA”.
The statement further reads that “South Ossetia’s position has been voiced for many years.”
“Georgia’s signing of a legally binding document on security guarantees with the Republic of South Ossetia remains a key issue. At the same time, we are coming out of the need to recognize the geopolitical reality that was created in the region after August 2008,” it reads.
The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, during his speech at the 79th session of the UN Assembly, said that despite the illegal occupation of 20% of the territories, Georgia continues to develop and build a better state.
The Prime Minister of Georgia addressed the residents of the occupied regions from the UN tribune.
“I would like to take advantage of this opportunity and address our people on the other side of the occupation line, in the Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions. All our steps are aimed at helping our people, and, one day, we, together with our children, can live together in a happy, united and developed Georgia. On this side of the occupation line, we will always welcome you with open arms. We must restore all the broken bridges in our country,” he said.
At the end of his speech, Kobakhidze said that Georgia stands at the crossroads of its recent history. He expressed optimism that Georgia’s desire to become a full member of the European Union will be fulfilled by 2030.
“Looking to the future and, at the same time, with our allies and partners committed to the idea of building a prosperous society, our joint efforts will continue in the future to support peace-building measures and ensure sustainable development. In this way, we will raise human dignity not only for the current citizens of Georgia, but also for the benefit of all future generations,” Kobakhidze said.
