“We asked our strategic partners not to leave the Georgian people alone, to stand by them, despite the fact that today the Georgian government pursues a completely different policy,” said Natia Mezvrishvili, one of the leaders of the party for Georgia, after a meeting with the Senior Policy Advisor to the US Secretary of State, Derek Chollet.
She said that the European choice is the choice of the citizens of Georgia.
Mezvrishvili noted that strategic partners are concerned about the situation in Georgia.
“Our main message is that today there is a very big gap between the Georgian government and the Georgian people. The people of Georgia support the country’s European integration process, and in this process, in parallel, the government is taking steps that undermine democracy on a daily basis. These steps are absolutely incompatible with Western values.
“Despite all this, we asked our strategic partners not to leave the Georgian people alone, to stand by them, despite the fact that today the Georgian government pursues a completely different policy.
“Giorgi Gakharia is in Brussels and our main message is that although the Georgian government is taking very dangerous steps and leaving us practically bare-handed with Russia, every step they take is in the interest of Russia alone, not to leave Georgian citizens alone. Because the European choice is the choice of the citizens of Georgia,” Mezvrishvili said.
She noted that strategic partners are concerned about the situation in Georgia.
“We did not raise the issue of sanctions, but the conversation was about the fact that we actually have the rule of one party, the rule of one man, to whom the whole party is subordinate and absolutely everything is governed by party interests, party instructions and its instructions. There was talk of sanctions, the issue was raised by colleagues. There was no specific answer from there. In general, our strategic partners are concerned about the current situation in Georgia, the position of the Georgian government and the steps that the Georgian government is taking. Confidence is very weakened. The government should do its best now. We, the opposition, are doing the job of the government to somehow convince the Americans, the Europeans, not to leave Georgia and stand by us, because we have a bad government that separates us from the European choice,” Mezvrishvili said.
