The Memorial House-Museum of Georgia’s National Hero Merab Kostava has reopened following a full-scale rehabilitation project. The newly restored museum was introduced today at a ceremonial event attended by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, Minister of Culture Tika Rukhadze and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze.
Mayor Kaladze stated that the building had been in a severely deteriorated state and this was the first comprehensive renovation since its establishment.
“The museum building was in poor condition, and the yard was disorganized. I’m glad that we’ve fully renewed this important space,” Kaladze said.
He added that Tbilisi City Hall continues to prioritize the development of cultural spaces — museums, libraries, and mediatheques — and that similar multifunctional projects will continue in the future.
As the Tbilisi City Hall declared, the rehabilitation expanded the museum’s total area, modernized its exhibition spaces and equipped it with new technology to better present Kostava’s life, work, and contribution to Georgia’s modern history.
The project also includes the creation of a modern educational space and a storage facility that ensures proper preservation of over 20,000 museum artifacts. The museum’s yard was renovated and expanded into a comfortable public area for visitors.
The total cost of the rehabilitation project amounted to 1,740,000 GEL.
