Dubai International Airport was struck by a drone on Saturday amid a widening regional escalation involving Iran and its adversaries in the Middle East, according to media reports.
The Times of Israel, citing videos circulating on social media, reported that an Iranian kamikaze drone crashed on the territory of Dubai International Airport during the ongoing attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates.
Footage shared online appears to show the drone impact inside the airport area, although officials have not yet released full details about the extent of the damage.
Following the incident, Dubai International Airport temporarily suspended operations.
In a statement, the airport’s press service said flights were halted to ensure the safety of passengers, airport staff, and flight crews while authorities assessed the situation.
No immediate reports of casualties have been confirmed.
Dubai International Airport is one of the busiest aviation hubs in the world, handling tens of millions of passengers annually and serving as a critical transit point connecting Europe, Asia, and Africa.
The reported strike comes as tensions across the Middle East continue to intensify amid a rapidly expanding conflict involving Iran and several regional actors.
Iran has been accused by Western and regional officials of using long-range drones and missile capabilities to project power across the region through both direct strikes and allied militias.
In recent years, Iranian-made or Iranian-supplied drones have been used in attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Israel, and Gulf infrastructure, including energy facilities and airports.
The United Arab Emirates, a close partner of the United States and Israel, has previously faced drone and missile attacks attributed to Iranian-backed groups, most notably the 2022 strikes on Abu Dhabi claimed by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, which also targeted civilian infrastructure.
Any confirmed attack on Dubai International Airport would represent a significant escalation, as the facility is a major global transport hub and a symbol of the UAE’s economic power.
Security analysts warn that strikes on civilian aviation infrastructure could disrupt global air travel routes and increase pressure on regional governments and international partners to respond.
Authorities in the UAE have not yet issued a detailed statement attributing responsibility for the attack or outlining potential countermeasures.
