The Mediterranean island of Malta is offering incentives for free independent travelers. Guests will receive a government subsidy according to the duration of their trip, hotel star-rating they stay at, and the area they travel to in Malta.
Visitors staying at participating 5-star hotels will get €100 ($120) per person towards the cost of their stay; those staying at four-star hotels will be allocated €75 ($90) per person. Guests at three-star hotels will receive €50 ($60) per person off every booking.
If you go to the neighboring island Gozo, you will be paid an additional 10% discount for your stay.
The project is financed by Malta Tourism Authority, offering €3.5 million in hopes of attracting 35,000 visitors this summer.
