The chairman of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashviliwrote letter to the President of Venice Commission, Claire Bazy Malaurie asking to disregard earlier request.
“Your Excellency,
I have recently conveyed you a letter asking for a legal opinion of the Venice Commission on two draft laws on transparency of foreign influence.
Unfortunately, the initiated regulations caused differences of opinion in Georgia’s society. False narratives and labelling misled citizens and reinforced confrontation.
Therefore, as a responsible actor careful about peace, stability and prosperity, the ruling party has made a decision to withdraw the support to the draft laws and stop their further legislative consideration.
Parliamentary procedures will follow. I hereby kindly ask you to disregard our earlier request for the legal opinion and suspend your decision making process in this regard.
Madam President, please, accept the assurances of my highest consideration and esteem.
Sincerely,
Shalva Papuashvili,” reads the letter.
