According to Grigol Gegelia, one of the leaders of the Lelo party, today’s statement of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, regarding the natural disaster in Racha, is “the peak of impudence”.
As he notes, the Minister’s statement is further proof that the government did nothing to make additional efforts.
“The statement of the Minister of Internal Affairs is the peak of impudence. By his logic, being overwhelmed by tons of mud is not life-threatening. According to the government, if you were swept away by the flood, the state will not consider it necessary to save you, because it turns out that there was no immediate risk at that moment. The Minister’s statement is further proof that the government did nothing to make additional efforts.
“It is a mixture of unheard of cynicism and murderous indifference. Every day of being under this government is deeply dangerous for every Georgian and our state, because this government serves the interests of Russia, not the Georgian people,” Gegelia said.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Vakhtang Gomelauri, answered journalists’ questions regarding the fact the helicopter flights were not run on the night following the Shovi landslide. He explained that helicopter flights in the mountains are associated with risk.
“As for why they didn’t fly at night? I have explained this a hundred times, everyone who knows about aviation understands very well, we have night flight facilities, we have purchased them, we can fly, but there is a very high risk, and unless human life is threatened at that moment, the pilots taking risks is not considered appropriate. It’s not allowed, it’s just not possible. We can get people out in three hours in the morning, not risking crashing the helicopter or the death of the pilots.,” Gomelauri said.
Gegelia’s statement was disseminated by Lelo party.
