Lelo MP: Belgium decided to remove Georgia from the list of safe countries

Belgium made a decision to remove Georgia from the list of countries that are considered safe in the European Union – this decision of Belgium confirms that our country has a government that serves Russia, not Georgia, – Lelo MP Salome Samadashvili said at a briefing in the parliament.

According to Samadashvili, Belgium made the decision because the current government of Georgia cannot ensure the rule of law and protection of the rights granted to its citizens.

Samadashvili emphasized that when Belgium makes such a decision, there is a serious danger that other countries will follow Belgium.

“Belgium made a decision to grant refugee status to citizens of Georgia, as citizens of a country whose own government cannot protect them, through a simplified procedure. This decision is alarming and the challenge this decision represents is related to the visa-free regime between our country and the European Union. In order for Georgia to maintain visa-free travel with the European Union, which has been achieved as a result of many years of work, the country should be considered a safe country. The Russian government of our country is doing everything possible to remove Georgia from the European orbit. This confirms once again that the main national task should be to change this government,” said Salome Samadashvili.
