The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has named Leah Gutierrez as its new Director General for the Central and West Asia Department, with the decision coming in effect immediately. In her new role, Ms. Gutierrez will oversee ADB’s operations and strategic direction in 11 countries, including Georgia, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Turkey.
Ms. Gutierrez, a national of the Philippines, holds a PhD and a Master’s in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Business Economics from the University of the Philippines. Bringing over 40 years of professional experience, Ms. Gutierrez has been with ADB for the past 25 years, holding senior leadership roles across multiple departments. Most recently, she led the Sectors Group 3, managing development operations related to finance, social development and public sector governance. She has also served as Director General of ADB’s Pacific Department and held important roles in the Southeast Asia Department and Strategy, Policy, and Partnerships Department.
“I am honored to serve in this position and will continue to engage with developing member countries and stakeholders to promote inclusive growth, regional cooperation, and sustainable development across the region,” she stated.
