We need a comprehensive security strategy for the countries of the Black Sea region, and the Black Sea should become what the Baltic Sea, NATO’s sea has already become, – the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, said at the Black Sea Security Conference in Bucharest.
He expressed regrets that the West did not have a coherent Black Sea strategy, while Russia always had it: aggressive, revanchist and barbaric.
“At every step, Russia acted where the West doubted. When NATO’s doors were closed to Ukraine and Georgia out of caution caused by fear in 2008, Russia quickly responded by attacking both countries. Russia was becoming a maniac, but the leaders of some countries decided that the best way was to make this maniac happy, including leaving potential victims vulnerable,” said Dmytro Kuleba.
He claimed that the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius is the right time to correct past mistakes by taking decisive steps towards Ukraine’s NATO membership.
