Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze addressed U.S. President Joe Biden’s cancelling of his invitation to his reception. During a meeting with Georgian journalists in New York, Kobakhidze labeled the situation as ‘not serious.’ He said the invitation had been sent three days prior, but was later revoked.
The PM claimed it was a ‘humanitarian act’ to the advantage of the opposition, however, he said, it will not reflect on their [the opposition’s] standing in any practical way.
“I cannot make a particular comment regarding this matter. It is not serious. They sent an invitation three days ago and later canceled it. It was a sort of humanitarian act in favor of the opposition, but would have no actual effect on them. It is difficult to make further comments on it,” Kobakhidze stated.
“The Biden administration canceled Prime Minister Kobakhidze’s invitation to the annual reception of the UN General Assembly and refused to meet with the Georgian delegation due to the Georgian government’s anti-democratic actions, misinformation and negative rhetoric about the United States and the West,” the US embassy told Netgazeti on Wednesday.
