Kelly Degnan: US welcomes President’s decision to pardon Gvaramia, it’s important contribution to reducing polarization in Georgia

The US welcomes the President’s decision to pardon Nika Gvaramia. This case has been problematic from the very beginning. The President’s decision is an important contribution to reducing polarization in Georgia, – US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan said.

She claimed that this is not the time for Georgians to be divided, this is the time for Georgians to stand together.

“President has the prerogative of pardoning. She made it very clear this was her decision. The United States and others have been very clear about their concerns, but expressing concern is what friends do when they have concerns. This is not interference. And I am confident that President Zurabishvili takes her pardoning authority very seriously,” the Ambassador noted.
