During a meeting on Sunday, President-elect Mikheil Kavelashvili highlighted Georgia’s commitment to European integration, touching upon the Government’s recent decision to postpone EU accession negotiations until 2028.
“We desire to become a member of the European Union. This is the declared will of the state, and we all agree on this. At the same time, we have our national interests,” Kavelashvili said.
“The statement may have been incomprehensible to someone, but he explained it well. We have a clearly defined, long-term process planned in relation to the European Union.” His comments on Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s controversial statements.
The President-elect criticized the EU’s alleged double standards, further claiming that “In some cases, they insult us and treat us unfairly. We are trying to bring these points back to their attention for a healthy process.”
