Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated that they have started taking steps to regulate outdoor trade in Tbilisi, adding that this time the area around the Varketili metro station is being regulated.
Kaladze noted, at the vicinity of Varketili Metro Station outside trade was taking place, which is unacceptable.
“Despite my great respect for these people, of course, it all needs to be sorted. They were relocated to the inner part of the market, where they continue their economic activities today. The board, a majoritarian member of the City Council, was involved in this. By mutual agreement with the market management, preferential terms were made for outdoor traders to carry out economic activities. The area will be regulated, for which the relevant infrastructural and dendrological works have already started,” the mayor said.
Kaladze stressed that a similar approach is to be taken to all metro entrances. The procedures have begun in the vicinity of metro stations Akhmeteli Theater and Samgori.
“The areas around the metro stations should be regulated because what is happening there today is unacceptable,” Kaladze said.
