Kakha Kaladze has said that regulating food prices is one of the state’s top priorities and that the issue will be resolved in the near future, while accusing the opposition of opposing all positive developments in the country.
Speaking to journalists in response to the Prime Minister’s remarks on high food prices, Kaladze emphasized the importance of price regulation, particularly for essential food products.
“Price regulation is very important for the food products the Prime Minister was talking about. If we compare prices, in Georgia certain products are more expensive than in European countries, which should not be the case,” Kaladze said.
Tbilisi Mayor says high food prices directly affect the most vulnerable segments of the population and require state intervention.
“This issue directly impacts our population, especially those who are most in need and require support. Regulating prices is one of the state’s priorities, and this issue will be resolved very soon,” he stated.
Kaladze noted that many countries have introduced special baskets of essential goods — such as flour and oil — to prevent unjustified price increases. He added that an investigation is underway to determine the reasons behind the significant price differences.
“Let’s wait for the investigation to determine what we are dealing with and why prices differ so drastically. I hope everything will be regulated,” he said.
Commenting on criticism from opposition representatives, Kaladze accused them of systematically opposing any positive steps taken by the government.
“If you look at their actions, they oppose everything good happening in the country and every step forward,” he said, adding that the opposition seeks to obstruct Georgia’s development, including its path toward European integration.
Kaladze claimed that opposition figures have openly called for the cancellation of the Association Agreement, the revocation of Georgia’s EU candidate status, and the imposition of sanctions against the country.
“They openly demand sanctions against Georgia and take pride in fighting against the country. This is outright betrayal. They go to offices in Brussels and demand that the country be punished. They are governed from the outside and do whatever they are instructed to do,” Kaladze concluded.
