Justice Minister Rati Bregadze published a post on his Facebook page, stating the European Court of Human Rights had rejected Saakashvili’s complaint regarding his wish to transfer to a private clinic, and had asked him to end his hunger strike.
The Government of Georgia was informed by a letter to the Strasbourg Court of 10 November 2021 that on the same date Mikheil Saakashvili’s representatives had appealed to the European Court of Human Rights to immediately transfer Saakashvili from №18 Medical Facility (where, according to the appellant, his health and safety are not adequately protected) to a multi-profile civilian clinic.
The ECHR did not grant the applicant’s above request and, instead of pushing for his transferal to a civilian clinic, urged the applicant party to end the hunger strike.
“The Government of Georgia must provide the European Court of Human Rights with information on the applicant’s health and safety by 24 November 2021,” the post reads.
