The Special Investigation Service has started an investigation into incidents of the use of excessive force by law enforcement officers against the participants of the rally against the “Russian” Law.
“On May 13, 2024, the Special Investigation Service has started an investigation into the use of excessive force by law enforcement officers against the participants of the rally, with signs of the crime provided for by subsection “b” of the third part of Article 333 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
“The Service will make an appropriate legal response to all criminal episodes of use of excessive force.
“Information about the progress and results of the investigation will be provided to the public,” reads the statement released by the Special Investigation Service.
20 persons were detained by police during last night’s protest, including three foreign citizens.
Video footage shows police abusing protesters both during and after the arrests, when the detainees were tied up or laid on the ground. The police kicked some detainees, and punched them in the head.
