The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) says an investigation has been launched under the article of group violence in connection with the confrontation that took place on Melikishvili Avenue in Tbilisi, near Kakha Kaladze’s election headquarters.
“Regarding the incident between citizens, the investigation has been initiated under Article 126¹ of the Criminal Code, which concerns violence committed by a group.
Law enforcement officers are carrying out the relevant investigative actions.
The confrontation between citizens occurred in the afternoon on Melikishvili Avenue. To defuse the situation and prevent further escalation of the conflict, law enforcement officers on site took the necessary measures,” the MIA said in a statement.
On the evening of September 8, a clash occurred on Melikishvili Avenue in Tbilisi, outside Kakha Kaladze’s campaign headquarters. Members of the Georgian Dream party physically attacked participants of a march moving from the Public Broadcaster toward Rustaveli Avenue. From Kaladze’s headquarters, protesters were pelted with various objects, including water bottles.
Several people, including journalists, were injured in the confrontation. Some required hospitalization.
