Today, the world marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGIS) 2026, observed under the theme: ‘Synergizing AI, Social Science, STEM and Finance: Building Inclusive Futures for Women and Girls.’
This year’s theme emphasizes a four-pillar approach to accelerate inclusive and sustainable development at a time when global inequalities continue to widen.
Investment in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education remains critical to equipping women and girls with the technical skills needed to develop and lead AI-driven solutions. Gender-balanced research teams are also recognized as a main factor in fostering more inclusive and impactful innovation.
Celebrated annually, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science calls on governments, institutions and the private sector to strengthen collaboration and ensure that scientific and technological progress benefits everyone equally.
