Imprisoned Georgian journalist Mzia Amaglobeli, founder of Netgazeti and Batumelebi, along with Belarusian journalist Andrzej Poczobut, has been awarded the 2025 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought.
Announcing the winners, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola said, “The courage of Andrzej Poczobut and Mzia Amaglobeli shines like a beacon for all who refuse to be silenced.”
Both laureates will receive a prize of €50,000. The official award ceremony will take place in Strasbourg on 16 December.
Established by the European Parliament in 1988, the Sakharov Prize honors individuals and organizations who have made exceptional contributions to defending human rights and fundamental freedoms, advancing democracy and the rule of law, upholding international law, and protecting minority rights.
