Having Catalytic Converter in Cars to Become Mandatory from January 2022

In Georgia, from January 1, 2022, all factory-made vehicles must have a catalytic converter. The CO amount in the exhaust should range from 0.3% to 0.5% for both light and increased torque.

From 2022, it will also become mandatory to have a fire extinguisher, a primary medical box and a warning triangle in the car.

Mevlud Meladze, Vice President of the Automobile Federation, during a conversation with Rustavi 2 stated that the installation of catalytic converters is a prerequisite for an ecologically clean environment in the long run.

“The cost of installing catalytic converters in a car can start at 600 GEL. It will be a simple and cheap catalytic converter that can last a year. It depends on the car because this cost can increase up to 10,000 GEL. In some cases, catalytic converters are so expensive that they may even equate to the cost of a car,”  Meladze noted.
