Green Market Festival Sparks Urgency for Climate-Smart Future

The European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as part of the EU4Climate programme, supported the Green Market Festival in Tbilisi, organized by the “Vintylator” social enterprise and the “Betterfly” advertising company in collaboration with a range of contributors.

The Green Market Festival provided an excellent platform for civil society, the private sector, youth, and activists to showcase their commitment to a sustainable future, promote green lifestyles, learn from each other’s experiences, and explore partnership opportunities.

A range of educational and entertainment activities included a fair of eco-friendly companies, an educational corner for children, and a display of products crafted from recycled materials. “We must work together to ensure a sustainable future for ourselves and generations to come. By advocating for climate action, raising awareness, and holding decision-makers accountable, civil society plays a crucial role in shaping policies and driving meaningful change towards a climate-smart world for all,” said Anna Chernyshova, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Georgia, in her remarks to the event participants.

Annelies Vanwymelbeke, Team Leader on Green Deal, Connectivity, Economic and Investment Plan at the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, noted that the EU is committed to supporting Georgia in its efforts to mitigate climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. “The EU brings together different sectors of society to work towards a sustainable green future,” Vanwymelbeke said.

###
The EU4Climate programme is a joint venture of the EU and UNDP to support Eastern Partnership countries in fulfilling their commitments to the Paris Agreement, improving climate policies and legislation, and reducing the impact of climate change on people’s lives. In Georgia, the EU4Climate programme provides expert and technical assistance to the Government in updating and implementing Georgia’s climate pledge, including the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the National Low Emission Development Strategy.
