“After the Prime Minister’s interview on TV Imedi, a disinformation campaign is being carried out in social networks and politically engaged media outlets and the Prime Minister’s statements are being deliberately misinterpreted. Also, false quotes circulate on social media. False information is being spread especially aggressively, which refers to the Prime Minister’s statements regarding the young people participating in the rally,” reads the statement of Government Stratcom.
As Government Stratcom notes, Garibashvili said in an interview: “In addition to the members of this destructive, anarchist movement, there were also many sincere students, but they were not so aggressive – they stood calmly, protested, simply supported the idea of Europe.” As noted in the statement, the Prime Minister also noted that Willingly or unwittingly involving young people in destructive processes is unacceptable.
“The Prime Minister also spoke at length about the specific steps and results taken by the government on the way to European integration, as well as the importance of receiving the status of a candidate for EU membership. However, politically engaged groups are trying to mislead the public through fake news,” the statement read.
