Due to the high public interest, the Georgian National Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (GNERC) clarifies that the natural gas consumption tariff is not to increase for citizens, only the commercial sector.
GNERC released a statement after news was spread yesterday that the price of natural gas will increase from December for commercial subscribers of “SOCAR Georgia Gas” and “Inter Gas” Ltd.
Natural gas household tariffs for customers of Tbilisi Energy Ltd in Tbilisi, SOCAR Georgia Gas, JSC Sakorggas and Inter Gas Ltd in the regions are set until December 31, 2022.
On November 1 of this year, the statement issued by SOCAR Georgia Gas Ltd and Inter Gas Ltd says the change to the natural gas tariff will apply only to commercial customers. GNERC does not set natural gas supply/consumption tariffs for this category of customers. The Commission sets only transfer and distribution tariffs for commercial users.
“In accordance with Order N69 of the Minister of Energy of Georgia of September 25, 2007, natural gas supply activities to non-household customers are deregulated and not subject to GNERC tariff regulations. Accordingly, companies will determine the price of natural gas supplied to non-household customers in accordance with market principles, and in case of change, they are obliged to notify them one month in advance,” the GNERC said in a statement.
From December 1, non-household subscribers of SOCAR Georgia Gas will pay 20 tetri more for the consumption of one cubic meter of natural gas. A similar tariff was set by Inter Gas Ltd, which serves Akhaltsikhe and Aspindza municipalities. In this case, the price of natural gas is to increase by 6 tetri.
