According to Giuli Alasania, the case of the former president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, was referred to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
However, Saakashvili’s lawyers neither deny nor confirm this information.
“Temporary postponement of a sentence, this is our wish. Due to the state of health, a person should be given the opportunity to recover his health, if he has a chance to do so,” Giuli Alasania told journalists in Poland.
Saakashvili’s lawyers had announced an appeal to the Strasbourg Court on the use of a temporary measure. However, this time it is not known what request Saakashvili made to Strasbourg and whether it is based on the request for a temporary measure.
According to Article 39 of the Rules of Court, the court is authorized to impose temporary measures binding on the state. Before considering the main case, the court meets the request for a temporary measure only in clearly defined conditions — when there is a danger of a serious violation of the Convention.
