German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer has returned to Tbilisi following several weeks of consultations in Berlin, the German Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday.
“After consultations in Berlin, the German Ambassador returned to Georgia today. He will continue his dedicated work with our full support,” the ministry stated on X (formerly Twitter).
Ambassador Fischer was recalled to Berlin on October 19 for consultations amid rising tensions between Tbilisi and several Western partners. The move came shortly after sharp exchanges between Georgian officials and European diplomats over criticism of Georgia’s democratic trajectory and its stance toward the European Union.
During his tenure, Fischer has been an outspoken advocate for Georgia’s European integration, often urging the government to uphold democratic standards and the rule of law — comments that have at times drawn rebukes from ruling party officials.
His return signals Berlin’s intention to maintain diplomatic engagement with Tbilisi despite ongoing strains between the Georgian government and its Western allies.
