Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze begins working visit to China

Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze has embarked on a working visit to the People’s Republic of China, marking another step in deepening bilateral relations between Tbilisi and Beijing.

Upon arrival at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, Kobakhidze was greeted by Xie Dong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai.

At the invitation of Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council of China, the Georgian Prime Minister will attend the opening ceremony of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) — a major global trade and investment event where Georgia is participating this year as the Guest of Honour.

During his visit, Irakli Kobakhidze is scheduled to hold a meeting with Premier Li Qiang to discuss strengthening economic cooperation, boosting exports, and attracting Chinese investment in Georgia’s energy, infrastructure, and tourism sectors.

The Prime Minister is accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilia Darchiashvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia, Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Irakli Karseladze, President of the National Bank Natia Turnava, and Head of the Government Administration Revaz Javelidze.

The China International Import Expo, held annually in Shanghai, serves as a key platform for promoting global trade cooperation. Georgia’s role as Guest of Honour this year highlights the growing strategic partnership between the two countries, particularly following the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement earlier this year.
